The Genealogy of Jesus |
Luke 3:26-38 begins with Jesus and goes backwards to God |
Matthew 1:1-16 begins at Abraham and works forward to Jesus. |
Luke has 15 more generations than does Matthew. |
Luke and Matthew split after David. |
Living Bible spelling in parenthesis. |
I don't know
for sure why these lists are different after David. Matthew may have
listed Joseph's heirs and Luke Mary's. "Begat" in Hebrew indicated
immediate or remote descent, an adoptive relation, or legal heirship, as well
as procreation. I just found it interesting and made myself a chart. |
