TIME FOR GOD “And they served their idols: which were a snare unto them." Psalm 106:36 A friend called me on the phone about an hour ago and said she wanted to tell me something while the commercial was on the television. It reminded me of many, many times when I would call my Mother and she would say that she couldn’t talk because she was watching a ball game. It broke my heart that my Mother loved watching ball games more than talking to me. I have been guilty in the past, before I made a heart commitment to Jesus, of doing the very same thing. I was addicted to watching basketball games on television. I would watch them one after another. I can remember several times someone would call me and I would make excuses why I couldn’t talk. How about you? Are you serving Jesus or objects? There is nothing wrong with watching television or doing any activity unless it comes before God. The Bible says, “To him that knoweth to do good and doeth it not, to him it is sin.” (James 4:17) If you claim to love Jesus, then you know He wants us to call people and encourage them. It is impossible to serve Jesus as He tells us to do if we are too caught up in other activities and don’t make Him our First Priority. When I fell in love with Jesus, when I realized the sacrifices that He made for me, then I had no desire at all to watch television. I challenge you to turn off the television, talk to your spouse and children, and call someone on the phone and tell that person that Jesus Loves him or her. We are to serve Jesus and not objects or sports. Note from Joanne: August 18, 2005 |
