Wisdom of God |
"For the preaching of the cross is to them that
perish foolishness; but to them which are saved it is the power of God."
1 Corinthians 1:18
The Pharisees and Scribes were notorious
for trying to trap Jesus. They came on several occasion to
"test
Him." There are among us brothers/sisters born of the same
spirit. When they ask a question it is to trap you into some display of
their superior knowledge or to win a point. If our main aim is to flaunt
our superiority over others or making a point or justifying ourselves or
our position we have missed the mark! We will never grasp a hold of the
Truth and what God wants us to do.
"That your faith should not stand in the wisdom
of men,
but in the power of God."
2 Corinthians 2:5
"And my speech and my preaching was not with
enticing words of man's wisdom, but in demonstration of the Spirit and
of power."
2 Corinthians 2:4
I believe Paul is trying to encourage those of us who
think we are not qualified to preach or teach or whatever! Paul is not
discrediting those who have much schooling and carefully study and
prepare their notes on what they are going to say. There are those among
us that would have you impressed with their degrees/schooling*.
There is nothing wrong in educating oneself. But Paul was speaking
against those who are trying to impress others with their knowledge,
vocabulary (I call them 2 dollar words!) or their speaking ability.
$$$$$$
You don't need to be a great speaker with a
vocabulary/cash register full of 2 dollar words to share the wonderful
Gospel effectively.
The swaying power is in the story, not the
storyteller!!
"For the preaching of the cross is to them that
perish foolishness; but unto us which are saved it is the power of
God!"1 Corinthians 1:18
*Quick note: If you feel a little out of
place sometimes among these scholars and are asked about your
education...if you feel that you have to have a response....well, I
think this would be a suitable response: Tell them you are
studying for the Master.
He is the Master and you are being degreed in
Him!
