"Let love be without dissimulation. Abhor that which is evil;
cleave to that which is good." |
COMMENTS:
Romans 12 consists of rules on how to act. I've already done studies on
all the verses up to verse 8. That's why we are doing verse 9 and probably
will be going over a few more. Loving without dissimulation means love with sincerity and without hypocrisy. That's just emphasis for "Thou shalt love ... thy neighbour as thyself." Luke 10:27 It's important that we not only detest evil, but that we are aware of what is actually evil. There are things that could be evil for me that aren't evil for someone else. If, when I play video games, I get so involved in them that I spend hours and hours doing it and can't wait to play them when I get up in the morning, then I need to consider them evil. Evil would be something that keeps me from doing what God wants me to be doing. Romans 12:10 says, "Be kindly affectioned one to another with brotherly love; in honour preferring one another." Have you ever read that and let it slide right on by without facing it head on? It is just more explanation on how to fulfill Luke 10:27 regarding loving your neighbour. If we just give lip service to scriptures such as Romans 12: 9-10 then we are not serving the Lord. Think of some of the people that you have not treated with brotherly love. Now, think of what answer you will give Jesus when, some day, He will ask you why you didn't. "Be not deceived; God is not mocked: for whatsoever a man soweth, that shall he also reap." Gal 6:7 |
